Join us on the 12th September 2024 at 6.30pm in the WI Hall Rochford to discuss ‘A New Museum for Rochford Town’. Free to anyone who wants to attend – no need to book.
The concept of a ‘museum’ has been raised regularly over many years by local groups and individuals who would like to see the heritage of Rochford and the surrounding area better interpreted and celebrated.
The event will be a workshop to explore how a ‘museum’ in Rochford might emerge – How? Who? Why? Where? Is it a physical space, or something else? How do we build on the excellent work of the Rochford Town Team?
The event will be hosted by the Cultural Engine Research Group (CERG) who are
based in Rochford. We will also welcome Toby Butler (Royal Holloway University of
London and Birkbeck University of London) who played a key role in the national ‘Mapping Museums’ project and has an excellent understanding of small museums across the UK. Toby co-authored the book ‘Stories from Small Museums’ in 2022 with Fiona Candlin (Birkbeck) and can share some insights and experience to help inform local ambitions. Following the event we will produce an outline concept and seek funding and support for any potential next steps.
