Cultural Engine was the lead local partner with the Thames Estuary Partnership in managing the North Thames Fisheries Local Action Group. The North Thames FLAG programme ran from 2017-2020 (ended in March 2020) and was awarded £600,000 by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) to allocate to projects in the North Thames FLAG area – with a significant focus on the Port of Leigh-on-Sea). The North Thames FLAG engaged many local partners including Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Leigh Port Partnership, PLA, and fishing industry representatives to ensure the future sustainability of Leigh-on-Sea port and the local fishing industry through increased marketing, training, heritage interpretation and improvements to port infrastructure.
