Resorting to the Coast – Tendring Coastal Towns

Working with Essex County Council and many local partners we developed the ‘Resorting to the Coast’ stage 2 HLF application which included writing a comprehensive interpretation strategy about the undiscovered / under-interpreted heritage of the seaside towns in Tendring. The heritage of the seaside and resort growth needs to be better understood by strategic partners (including Local Authorities), communities, businesses and visitors to an area that includes Clacton, Jaywick, Walton-on-the-Naze, Frinton, and Harwich/Dovercourt. We have continued to lead on the project developing better partnership working and collaboration between the heritage organisations in the area and have established the Tendring Coastal Towns Heritage Collaboration Group which has representation from all of the local heritage organisations across the area. This group is now developing a joint strategy to ensure that heritage is better represented in broader strategies (including tourism and regeneration) that will have a significant impact on the area and the way that people relate to the main coastal towns.
