Cultural Engine have worked with Uttlesford District Council and many local organisations, creatives and heritage groups since 2021 – supportinig cultural and heritage development as well as supporting projects and initiatives relating to the local economy (including tourism). In 2021 we published a report on the creative and heritage sectors in the district to support the new local plan process. To date we have supported the development of projects, establishment of new networks, collaborations and community organisations, and delivered events and workshops. Uttlesford is a primarily rural district in Essex, so a focus on rurality and working with many local organisations including town and parish councils has been important. We have been very interested in the concept of ‘rural resilience’ – how local communities come together to work on projects and take action on local priorities.
