Following a presentation of our research at the Key Cities conference in Bradford last November, Prof. shirley congdon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford referenced CERG’s work on emotional geographies during her speech at the third annual Cities in Parliament reception with City Leaders, Parliamentarians, University Leaders and place stakeholders from Plymouth, Sunderland, Cumberland, Salford, Essex, Wolverhampton, Newport, Bradford, Colchester, Lancaster, Coventry, Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole, Wrexham, Lincoln, Southampton, Bath, Medway, Norwich, Portsmouth Gloucester, Hull, Exeter and Stoke-on-Trent.
Key Cities Chair Cllr John Merry outlined the network’s engagement with Government on devolution, growth, social care, housing and a wide range of policy areas, and Prof. shirley congdon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford, reported on the development of the Key Cities Innovation Network. Rebecca Smith MP and Steve Race MP spoke about the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Key Cities and the enduring importance of this national cross-party collaboration between cities, universities and MPs.
Highlight of the evening was the launch of **On the waterfront**, a Key Cities policy report calling for urgent action to reverse half a century of decline in our coastal communities, introduced by Cllr Tudor Evans, Prof. Sheena Asthana and Prof. Sheela Agarwal with powerful supporting contributions from Lord Steve Bassam, Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on Regenerating Coastal Towns and Communities, and Polly Billington MP, co-chair of the APPG for Coastal Communities.
